Letter from the Chief Executive Officer
Dear Members, friends and associates of ALABC,
ALABC is very fortunate to have a very dedicated and well credentialed board who bring a wealth of experience and diversity of interests to our organisation. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our newly elected board members Trevor Woolfe, Paul Murphy and Elliot Luke who were voted in at our recent AGM and bring a variety of country and sectoral knowledge. We are especially pleased to once again have a Western Australian board member in Elliot, so if you are Perth based and would like to arrange a time to meet him, please get in touch. I also would like to offer sincere thanks to Felipe Hodar, Paola Lasso and Valeria Alvano who finished up their terms with ALABC.
We have hit the mid-point of 2025 with an even busier program for the remainder of the year. Kicking things off in July we will be continuing our spotlight on infrastructure with webinars on opportunities in Chile and Costa Rica and hosting our Melbourne Gala Dinner and Business Excellence Awards. We extend our sincere thanks to our outstanding speakers: Daniel Córdova Espinoza (Promperu), César Candela (SNCI), Germán Barrios (BAFUR), and Harris Gomez (Harris Gomez Group) for sharing their valuable expertise on market entry, legal frameworks, and strategic collaboration in Peru.

ALABC AGM 2025
Following our 2025 Annual General Meeting on 14 May, we are pleased to announce the results of this year’s Board election. We warmly welcome Elliot Luke, Trevor Woolfe, and Paul Murphy as newly appointed Directors, each beginning a 3-year term. We also extend our congratulations to Richard Andrews, Julio Gonzalez, and Rob Whiddon on their re-election for another 1-year term.
We would like to sincerely thank our retiring Directors, Paola A. Lasso, Valeria Alvano, and Felipe Hödar, for their dedication and valued contributions to ALABC. Their commitment has played an important role in strengthening the organisation. We look forward to this next chapter with optimism and continued collaboration.

Latin America Queensland Parliamentary Friendship Group
On 13 May, the Co-Chairs of the Latin America Queensland Parliamentary Friendship Group hosted a special gathering at Parliament House for ALABC members, featuring the Ambassador of Mexico, H.E. Ernesto Céspedes, and the Counsellor, Mr Alejandro Rivera.
Ambassador Céspedes presented Mexico’s new economic, trade, and investment strategy, highlighting exciting opportunities for deeper collaboration between Australia and Mexico. The event served as a valuable platform for strengthening bilateral engagement and fostering connections between government, business, and diplomatic communities.

Budget Event at Queensland Parliament - May
Following the release of the Queensland Government's 2025–26 Budget, ALABC was honoured to participate in a special event held at Parliament House in Brisbane. Hosted by Fiona Simpson MP and Premier David Crisafulli, the event highlighted key budget initiatives relevant to our mission, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and multicultural engagement.
ALABC was proudly represented by CEO Kim Prior and Director Rob Whiddon, further strengthening our commitment to fostering economic ties between Australia and Latin America.
